DISCUSSION BOARD GOALS
In order to receive the most benefit from this course, students must have a strong, engaging, and interactive presence on the Discussion Board. The Discussion Board environment will be a place of robust academic interchange amongst the students and the instructor. It will also incorporate outside resources relevant to the Week’s subject matter.
Your posts need to reflect your own thoughts based upon the reading and any other further research you perform concerning the subject matter covered. You are not permitted to cut and paste from a website or any other source instead of answering the question(s) and/or articulating your answer in your own words.
To receive credit for a Discussion Board posting, students must do more than simply agree or disagree. Rather, each student must demonstrate higher-level critical thinking and provide compelling evidence and support for why conclusions have been reached.
INITIAL POST REQUIREMENTS
Initial Posts may require either a video submission or a written response.
- Videos: 2-3 minutes (with your face visible)
- Written: 150-200 words.
Be sure to complete the necessary assignments (reading and videos) before drafting your initial post.
FOLLOW-UP POST REQUIREMENTS
Follow-Up Posts may require either two written responses to other student posts in your class or a single written response to a follow-up prompt given by the professor.
- Responding to other classmates: 100-150 words, review your classmates’ initial posts and respond in writing to at least two classmates with questions, comments, etc.
- Responding to the professor’s prompt: 100-150 words, follow-up prompts are given during the Live Session by the professor.
Please review the specific assignment instructions for each week’s discussion post assignments, as instructions may vary depending on the course.
STRIVING FOR EXCELLENCE
To receive full credit for these assignments, consider the following requirements:
- For the initial posts, fully discuss each of the elements addressed in the assignment description questions and do so in a manner that appears to grasp an understanding of the general framework; do not veer off topic.
- For discussion post responses, do not merely agree or disagree, but fully interact thoughtfully by addressing & interacting with the content in a way that is well-articulated, interesting, and moves the conversation forward. Choose aspects of discussion that push for further engagement on the topic.
- Be prepared and professional throughout the initial post (whether video or written) and stay within the assigned time length or word count. Guard against typos, grammatical errors, or incorrect word usage.
Be sure to review the rubrics for each week’s assignments.
